Winter is still doing its thing and it is no longer sustainable to just cover the house with the quilts, or turn on that old heater that has been years without heating each room evenly. In short, it is the best time to take advantage of one of the most important functions of your minisplit: heating. But, you may be wondering, how to activate this mode of air conditioning, if I've only used it to cool? In this blog, we will explain step by step how to put your minisplit with heating and how to use the function getting the most out of it.

Turn on your minisplit and activate heating mode

How to put the minisplit on heating

It seems obvious, but the first step is to turn on the minisplit with the remote control, pressing the on/off symbol. Then, you need to look for the "MODE" button and pay attention to the control screen, because there you can see the different icons that represent the available modes in the equipment: air conditioning, heating, fan and dehumidifier. Press the "MODE" button and check that the sun symbol is on the screen. You have now selected the "HEAT" function.

Now, it is important to check if your minisplit is cooling/heating or only cooling. The cold/heat minisplits are the only ones that have the heating function. Therefore, check the model of your air conditioner.

Set the temperature and speed of the air conditioner

Once you have selected the heating mode, adjust the temperature. We recommend that you select temperatures between 23° and 25°C, as these are the most appropriate for the mini-split to work efficiently and bring a pleasant atmosphere into the home. In addition, choosing higher temperatures when the outside temperature is low may cause the condenser to freeze (more on this later). Finally, we suggest that you choose a low or medium speed, so that the equipment works in the right way.

Keep an eye on how it works

Before enjoying a warm and comfortable environment, it is likely that you will have to wait a few minutes for the minisplit's internal configuration process to activate the heating. You should keep an eye on the temperature inside your room and outside your house, because if the difference is noticeable, it is likely that at some point it will stop. Do not worry, this is normal, in fact, it is an equipment protection measure. Remember that when the minisplit is working as an air conditioner, the condenser throws the hot air out; on the other hand, when it is in heating mode, it will throw cold air. When exposed to extreme cold temperatures, the equipment stops, thus preventing the condenser from freezing and being damaged.

That's it! You will be able to enjoy a comfortable temperature, using the heating of your minisplit correctly. If you want to know a little more about why the function in your equipment might stop, we suggest you read our blog post "Why does the heating in minisplits stop?"

Keep enjoying your minisplit to the fullest!
